I need help....

Obviously the professional kind would be awesome, but for right now I just need a little shopping help. **Gasp!!** Did I really just say that I needed help shopping?! Here's the deal. LuckyHusband decided to take the easy route and tell me to spend money on myself for my birthday (which is Saturday by the way). Anyway, I want to buy some yarn, some knitting books with patterns that my new knitting self can actually complete, and maybe even some cool knitting accessories such as cute t-shirts, jewelry, etc.
So, give me suggestions. Tell me what you would buy.
Also, the baby hat from the previous post was knit in 100% merino wool from Knitpicks. I want to make 2 more for some baby girls in my life, but it gets really really hot here in hell Louisiana, so I was thinking of completing the project with some 100% merino cotton. If the gauge on the 2 yarns is the same, will that be okay? Or will it break some knitting rule I don't know about yet?
I've also finished my Comforting Jef square. Here's a pic. It's very soft and light. I just couldn't send something that wasn't a little bit luxurious! :)

Here's Layla as compared to a box of cookies. Tiny....

In other crafting news, here is the "Daddy's Tool Belt" that I made for my super-nuts brother-in-law. It was packed with a bib, bottle, pacis, powder, Tylenol, etc. He loved it!

Just about 1/4 mile from my driveway, I come around this curve. I love how pretty it is.

Hope you enjoyed, now don't forget to leave me a comment and help me out! :)

ETA: Conversation with male co-worker
CW: How much does that yarn cost?
Me: Depends. This stuff was about $5 per skein. That's pretty cheap
CW: You could just buy some socks or a sweater and come out better.
Me: Don't you fish?
CW: Yes.
Me: You'd probably come out better to go to a restaurant and buy a fish plate. Now shut up.

Treat yourself to a set of Addi Turbos or the Denise interchangeable needle set.
You could also buy yourself some nice alpaca or super soft merino. Just go to your LYS and fondle to your heart's content.

Hey Melissa love your blog! I am gonna put you on mine..you are funny! Love your road; we live in the country and the scenery is beautiful (okay right now kind a brown but winter is over - yeah)!

Books I would buy are On/Over the Edge by Nicky Epstein, Knit/Purl by Sally Melville, Sensational Knitted Socks,Handknit Holidays. Needles - addis are awesome or some Lantern Moon.

I love your square; it is very soft looking (like you want to rub it on your face)!

Early Happy Birthday! Hope you have a great one!

I just bought The Yarn Girls Guide to Beyond the Basics and they have some great, easy patterns in it. Lots of tanks and t-shirt-ish patterns, and they seem to be pretty easy. I liked their first book, too. (The Yarn Girls Guide to Simple Knits)

What a cute wee dog! The size of a box of cookies! Our dog weighs 80 pounds and is the size of a crate of cookies. He's still cute, even if he isn't wee.

Your square is lovely!

hmmm ok wow!! where to start *lol* I am so enjoying your blog.. Beautifull road to your home. The baby hat is luxurious. As for what to buy yourself..
Addi Turbos!!!! are definately a must. As for books I say just sit your bottom down in front of the bookshelfe at your local book store and just start going through each one I normally pick the book that has the most projects in it that I want to attempt...but for beginners .. Stitch N Bitch is good.. I like the Ponchos, Wraps and Scarves.. the instructions are wonderful.. step by step.

Oh lordy..I gotta stop..I can go on and on when it comes to shopping for knits.
Good Luck!!!

Your conversation made me laugh out loud. Good comparison. I can use it with one of my coworkers who makes fun of my knitting but is obsessed with flyfishing. Thanks.
