Of puppies and clowns....

And now for another round of LittleMan is hilarious.....

Me: What do you want for supper?
LM: Corn dog minis (his favorite)
Me: Okay. Sounds good.
LM: Mommy, what are those made out of .
Me: Weenies and breading
LM: And puppies?
Me: What?
LM: Puppies.
Me: Where in the world did you get that from?
LM: Well, cause they are little and the big ones are corn dogs.

Gotta love that freaking logic, but it gets better.

Me: No baby. They are made from cows and pigs probably.
LM: Gross! I don't want them.
Me: Why?
LM: I don't want to eat pigs and cows.
Me; But you were okay with it when you thought it was puppies.
LM: I guess. But that's gross too. How about we have hot dogs.
Me: UUGGHHH!!!!

And on Sunday on the way to church as I'm putting on my makeup.

LM: Mommy, can I see your makeup bag?
Me: Why?
LM: I want to look at your makeup
Me: No. Little boys don't play with makeup.
LM: But I'm going to wear makeup when I get older.
Me: (Freaking Out!!) ummm.....why is that?
LM: 'Cause I'm going to be a clown.

WHEW!

A couple of new hobbies

I don't have time for the hobbies that I have, but decided to get a couple more. I wanted to make a twirl skirt like the one I bought for LittleGirl for her birthday. I don't sew. I don't even know how to use a sewing machine!! But I love fabric. So, I cut out all of the pieces and my mom is going to sew the skirt. I'm so excited!!
Here is the skirt that I bought....
Here is the fabric that I cut for the skirt. Lots of vintage looking stuff. I am totally in love with these fabrics. I can't wait to see the finished product.
Also, I have been really into cupcakes lately. They are so darn (this says d a r n, but when I looked at it after I hit "publish" I see that it looks like I can't spell my 4 letter words!) cute!! So, for LittleGirl's first birthday I want to make her a giant cupcake cake. So, I bought this pan and practiced last night by making my mom a birthday cake.

Pre-Assembly and Frosting....
Frosted and with a smaller cupcake for scale....
Final product....

I ran out of icing so, there isn't any icing at the very bottom of the "topper" but I think that's okay for a preparatory run. I didn't put icing on or decorate the bottom so it would be more like a "real" cupcake. LG's cake will be chocolate, so I think that will lend itself better to the overall look of things.
Tips on the cake in case you are looking to do the same: I used 3 1/2 cups of batter per side. 4 would have probably been a little better. I filled the side for the bottom and baked 15 minutes and then took out and added the batter for the swirl. that seemed to work well. I read that tip on someone's flickr I think. I also read something recommending setting the oven at 325 instead of 350. That might have been a good thing, but I think I'll stick with 350.
This was fairly easy though and a blast to make!!
And for fun...
Put your ipod on shuffle and list the first 5 songs that come up and give your thoughts on them. (Come on everyone, you do this one too!!)
1. Peaches - The Presidents of the United States of America This song reminds me of a guy I used to work with b/c we used to sing this to annoy a co-worker. Unfortunately, the song stuck in my head and so I added it to the ipod. LittleMan absolutely loves this song!!
2. How to Save a Life - The Fray I love Grey's and therefore, love this song. My co-worker gave me the CD to copy and I love the whole thing!!
3. Hair - The Cowsills No earthly idea why or where it came from. I have a sneaking suspicion that my cousin Michael is to blame.
4. Open Arms - Journey Come on...who doesn't like this song??
5. This Years Love - David Gray Lucky Husband picked up on this song in the movie "The Girl Next Door". I totally questioned that why the boy was "getting lucky" the hubby was focusing on the song playing; but, then I was oddly proud. :)

Clapotis and Kids

I started my first Clapotis. Yes, I'm definitely behind the rest of the knitting world. I have no idea why I waited this long. I'm using Lisa Souza Sock! in Emerald City with US7s. I am really loving it. Since you have looked at a few dozen Clapotis by now, then we'll just see some goofy pics of the kids.

Smoked Turkey Leg....lol

LittleGirl's new skirt. It was/is a birthday present, but I couldn't wait. She really likes it. The waist stretches, so it will be a good dress up skirt for at least 2-3 years.

I've really gotten into repurposing/recycling in the last year. We had some glass jars in the lab that contained some absorbing agent. When they were empty, I decided that they would make great banks for the kids. Here's LittleGirl's and LittleMan's had a dinosaur. I need to take a pic of it I guess.

I hope you all have a great weekend!!

Calorimetry Complete!!

I finished up the Calorimetry. I cast on 88 stitches instead of the number called for in the pattern and I only repeated row 5 10 or 12 times. Mine and the Hooker's are exactly the same; however, we didn't get a pic together. Also, credit goes to LittleMan for the photo. The yarn is Malabrigo Worsted in the Vaa colorway, knit on Size 7s.
We've been doing some prep work to get ready for Little Girl's birthday in February. What type of prep work? Cupcakes? I want to get the perfect cake/icing combo for her giant cupcake and I want to get a few different things for the guests. This is a chocolate fudge cupcake (YUM!) and whipped icing. And here are a few goofy pics. Me and LM....

And LG....looks like she was having a bad day. :)

I also have found some absolutely wonderful etsy shops the past couple of days. First off is Knotty Baby Wear. Totally adorable tights that are thigh high for babies and toddlers so that you can change diapers without having to pull down tights. They are super cute!

Next, Pitter Patter Cards. They will custom design invites, baby announcements, etc that you can print out as 4x6 photos at your local photo printing place! You pay them for the design and they send it to you as a pdf.

And finally, Valie520. She will design custom wrappers for Hershey bars, KitKat, whatever, that you can print yourself. Again, they send you the design, you print where you want and attach to the bar. I am going to print some for candy bars for party favors for the birthday party.

I hope you are all having a great week and a wonderful 2009.
