Running in the Cold

Running

I'm starting to get the hang of this running in the cold thing. 30 degrees and very humid and I walked 1 mile and ran 2.07. I could have went longer, but we were having chili in the maintenance office and I didn't want to miss out!

I walked longer than I intended, but I was pretty pissed from some work issues and the walking group was listening, so I talked with them about things until I felt better then I was off for the run. I could have gotten at least 1.75 miles in the time it took me to walk/chat 1 mile with them, but I love those guys!

Running friend was doing a 6 miler today and I caught up with him at the end of my 2 miles, but something dangerously similar to sleet was hitting my face and then there was the chili, so I called it a success and headed inside. I'm glad I did because there were brownies. I ran in the freaking sleet people (or at least I think it was sleet...could have been condensation from the stacks at the mill...but we'll go with sleet for the purpose of the story) so I had a brownie. A girl deserves a treat for hard work.

2010 Goals Update

  • I have done core and strength work 5 out of the 7 days this year. I am still loving the Perfect Pushups!

  • I have ran 8.15 miles (in the cold!) and walked 4.87 miles for a total of 13.02 miles. I am on track to exceed 500 miles this year. Heck, I might go for 500 running miles and 500 walking miles. Who knows. LOL!

  • I am 2/3 of the way through my first book of 2010.

  • I have spent more time snuggling and enjoying being a mom.

Garmin

Thanks also for the kind words about the Garmin. Someone said they hadn't noticed the zones. If you click the button to show Zones on your graph and then make it full screen, you should see what I'm talking about. If not, e-mail me!

Valentine's Swap

First of all, thanks for the sweet words about the asses and their comments. Seriously though, those things fuel me. And as for the guy who was such an ass, last time I saw him he was pretty chubby (LOL!) but super nice. Cracked me up.

Thanks for the great response to the Valentine's Swap. PLEASE e-mail me your info if you want to do this. (littlemp@gmail.com) It's just a card guys. One card and a 44 cent stamp and some encouragement and love will totally make their (and your) day! (See yesterday's post for details!)

Recipes

My friend Susan made a great white bean chicken chili recipe that we had today. I will try to get it and post it tomorrow. It was really tasty!!

Giveaways and Links

There is a bunch of Progresso giveaways going on out there in blogland and right now the only one I remember is going on here. So, go sign up!! I am in love with the jump rope and the soup mug. I'm crossing my fingers to win!
Mary is giving away some cool spice racks. Go enter!! :)

Robin has gotten the Pay it Forward 500 mile club up and running!!! I decided to put a jar on my desk at work (since I do most of my runnig at lunch) and I put a dime (or two or three) in there every time I run (depending on my mileage) and by the end of the year, I'll have my donation for charity. Who misses a few dimes anyway?? And if you haven't checked out her blog, you should, she's great!

Stay warm guys! It's cold out there!

I always find that once I get going the cold weather isn't too awful - but sleet would be awful! The coldest I've gone so far is 9 degrees and that was with many, many layers on.

Melissa, you're amazing... all your accomplishments. Thanks for the pep talk and I want to try your recipes. I'll make my list of items before heading to the store.

I have asthma so I need to be careful of the cold but you encourage me to run, even in the cold. It really isn't as bad once you're up and running. If there is no rain, I'm gonna get out there first thing in the morning. Thank you for your comments to my post earlier.

That white bean chili sounds good. Can't wait for the recipe. I think I am going to make some chili and freeze it for lazy days.

I'm glad you got a chance to walk and vent - sometimes that's waaaaaay more important than a couple more miles!

I do what to do your Valentine card exchange so please add me to your list - I will send you an email here in a few minutes. Happy weekend :).
