Peach Festival 5K Recap

First of all, I have some pics from the Shelby's Wish 5K two weeks ago. I'm in the middle, my speedy friend Kathy is on the right (first place overall female...whew!), and my lunch running buddy Donnie is on the left.

This was right after we finished. I was all about the ice water sponges!

Here I am after the Peach Fest 5K with my celebratory peach ice cream. That stuff was way tasty!
And this is our group....me, Rosie the maintenance secretary, Donnie's wife Susan, and Donnie. We had a BLAST!

This race was at 8 am but it was blazing hot. I lost about 2 minutes getting around people who were walking and lined up in the first half of the group. This was a gun time not chip time race, so those minutes were just that....lost. :(

I found a guy within the first half mile and we pretty much kept the same pace throughout. With about half a mile left, he looked totally spent and stopped and was walking slowly. I yelled back at him to come on that it was almost over and he caught back up. We stayed together the rest of the way and he graciously let me in front of him in the finish line. :)

I finished in 31:09, but I really feel like I was at least more around the 30 mark. I went into the race with the goal to just have fun and not push myself too hard with the heat and that I did. :) I really think I had the most fun after I finished though. A lady from our Weight Watchers class has been run/walking. She is soooo excited about her progress and completed her first 5K in May in a little over 44 minutes. Her goal for this 5K was to better her time. I back tracked and found her and jogged with her to the finish line cheering her on. It was great. I picked out two women in the last .1 miles that she could overcome and cheered at her to pass them up and she did and finished in a little over 42 minutes!

After that, I went and found Rosie and Susan and cheered them on and jogged with Rosie to the finish while Donnie jogged with Susan. That was so much fun watching the two of them complete their first 5Ks!!

I couldn't help but think about Mel, Zoe, Amanda, Genesis, and all of the others finishing the Seattle Rock and Roll Saturday while I was running. Check out their recaps. They all did GREAT!
