Today calls for a 3.5 mile run at lunch and I downloaded 2 podcasts that I hope will keep me occupied. They are both episodes of the Freakonomics podcast. One was dealing with obesity in the US and the other one I can't remember. Speaking of obesity, look for a great guest post on that soon.
Anyway, my lunchtime running buddy is in Mexico on a mission trip, so I hope that will keep me occupied during the run today. I need something to distract me from the 107 heat index out there.
I have tried out a few things lately that I thought I'd share. **Disclaimer** I was not paid to write these reviews...they are my own opinion...insert legal jargon crap here*** First off is the ifitness Ultimate Race Belt that I won from Tall Mom. (pic stolen from the ifitness website...that's not me..obviously...lol)
I love that this belt has bib clips and places for Gu (when I get brave enough to try that). I have an ifitness belt already and have fallen in love with the comfort and the ability to carry my cell while on lunch runs. (my employees work through lunch and that is generally when they have questions....oh joy) You honestly never feel it. It doesn't jiggle, isn't uncomfortable, and doesn't ride up. This will definitely accompany me on my first half marathon.
I want to mention that I won a ClifBar giveaway on Christina's blog, so look for reviews on that coming up. Perfect timing!!
For those of you (like myself) looking for something to cool you down without feeling super guilty, the empty carton in my trash can attest to the fact that I am feeling some serious LOVE for Edy's Slow Churned right now. The chocolate flavor is awesome as is the vanilla bean. 2-3 WW points per serving. My kids love the chocolate almost as much as I do!
Another product that is back in my rotation (I think I've reviewed it before, but want to give it another one) is the Fuel Belt Sprint handheld. It holds 10 oz of liquid and has a pouch for ID, a key, or a pack of Gu. I tried to post a pic, but it didn't work. Oh well.
I love this thing. It's comfy in my hand, stays put, and I like that it's small so I don't really feel weighted down.
However, now I want something bigger. It's hot and 10 oz just isn't doing it for me. So....why don't YOU tell ME what you like. I like the way that the Fuel Belt one fits in my hand, so something along those lines is great.
While asking for recommendations, how about compression/recovery socks. I am looking at teh Smartwool PHD Graduated Recovery Ultra Light socks for recovery (b/c Runner's World gave them big props in this month's issue) and Sugoi R&R for race socks. However, could the Sugoi be good race and recovery socks? What kind are you in love with? Sell me on something, please!!!
Stay tuned for a giveaway coming up from Gone for a Run. (Did I mention that I love them??)
Hope you are all having a GREAT week!

I think I'm going to get an ifitness belt for my half so I don't have to carry my iphone on my arm.
Here's the water bottle I use...love it.

i sued VatalSox recovery sock after my half and they made my legs feel like a million bucks!
the bottle/handheld I now use is a nathan hydration 12oz (or 16 oz. not sure which one), but i love it. I used to use the FuelBelt handheld but it leaked and it irritated me beyond words.
i bought a fuelbelt although its an ironman brand and I dont really like how heavy it feels on my waist when it run. for long runs i prefer a camelbak.
I use a nathan Handheld and it works great. The straps really keep the bottle attached to your hand, so it is no work to hold :)
I have never used a fuel belt or hand held water bottles... I don't run outside that much. Shameful, I know.
I think I told you, but I bought an amphipod fuel belt. I can carry up to 4 bottles. It has a nice pouch and I ordered a bigger one so I can carry all I need and that my hubby thinks I need.
And thanks for the link to my blog...can't wait to see what you think of the bloks. I prefer them to the gels!
I love the new look! Am I super late on catching that?! ;)
Thanks for the reviews!!
Good job on the 4 miles. I cannot image running in the heat you are running in. I have a hard time with 85!
I am nervous to get a belt! Really.. they don't ride up at all? You're brave to run in 100+ degree weather!! Keep up the phenomenal work. As always, you are so inspiring!!
I dont have the socks, but I have the Sugoi R&R (piston200) tights and I LOVE them. Like LOVE LOVE *dont get between me and those tights* LOVE. ;) Seriously, I even slip them on after tough lower body strength training sessions, not just runs. pure bliss
I've been looking into the ifitness belt as I feel I carry way too much on my runs. Keep up the good work on your half-marathon training.
Im so torn about the belts!
didnt use one for my first half---but carried my phone and my gu :)
not the best idea.
I need to try one now so I have plenty of time to get used to running with it on huh?
MizFit
I like my spibelt cuz I can hide my camera in it and I like to take pictures :). Thanks for the great reviews, I will definitely look into some of those. And 107 heat index and running are not good friends. UGH, I'm not sure how you do that, but way to gooooo!!
Ooh you got some goodies!
My hero! Keep it up.
唯有穿鞋的人,才知道鞋的哪一處擠腳............................................................
I love my spibelt!
