What a freaking week!

You know it's been a bad day week when you come home and are grateful that your kids are gone for a few hours and you can (a) get it over with and take a shot of tequila (b) eat Japanese food in your underwear (c) watch a show on TV with dead bodies that you can't watch with the kids (d) run on the treadmill (e) eat chocolate ice cream (f) all of the above

For the record...I chose (f).

I have been having quite a bit of calf pain in my left leg. Any ideas on that one? About half a mile into the run (treadmill or road), my calf starts aching terribly. Maybe I just need to build up some muscles there or something?

I used my new wrist wallet from
Gone for a Run on a run last week. It was 95 degrees outside and very sunny and it wasn't too hot on my wrist or anything. It held my key and money without flopping around or being too loose or anything.

Speaking of Gone for a Run, keep your eyes open for a giveaway from them in the near future. Love that website, guys!

Thanks also for all of the well wishes on school board. I am pleased and a little shocked as well to announce that I drew no opponent in the race, so I am officially a board member for another 4 years. Yippee!!

I also want to thank Tall Mom for the package I received from her this week. I won a Marathon for the Cure t-shirt, visor, ifitness belt (the kind that holds a race bib!), Christmas tree ornament, and a headband (Mel-is that a sweaty band?). I was so super excited! Thanks Mel!

I am off to watch a DVRed episode of Rizzoli and Isles. This show is really really good!! Melissa

Hey Melissa, I've been reading your blog for a while as I am also a runner and ww enthusiast! I've had lots of problems with calf pain and running (for me the culprit is really tight calf muscles, so I have to stretch them for about 30 minutes a day, usually three sets of ten minutes). Because of my overly tight calves I've had various injuries related to them such as plantar fasciitis and a sprained ankle, these both sent me to physical therapy. After physical therapy didn't help much I found that acupuncture can do wonders for running related issues, it can help relax muscles, ease pain, and is very relaxing. I highly recommend acupuncture. good luck with half marathon training, I'm training for one myself in October. great blog!

um, yeah....I have had those kind of weeks...but my usual method is to get my diet coke and my buttered crackers and retreat to my bedroom and numb my brain with hour after hour of Dr. quinn mediciine women episodes on youtube.
too much fun. lol.
Feel better. I had some bad leg pain a while back and a rolling pin worked for me, maybe you could try that. hope you feel better soon.

Congratulations on another 4 years! I hope that pesky pain gets better. Running injuries are no fun, and you have to be in peak performance to kick some butt in the half marathon in a few months!

I totally identify having one of *those* weeks!

Sorry about the craziness! Glad you could relax a bit this evening.

I haven't dealt with calf pain, but my friend's husband was having a hard time with sore, tight calves and he started running in compression/recovery socks and noticed a huge improvement. Good luck!

Congrats on the school board! Sorry about the calf pain. Is it a cramp? Sometimes I eat a banana to help with cramps, but I don't know if it just hurts! Hope your week gets better!
